I had to take a bit of a break from blogging to work on adulting for the past two weeks. I did manage to get quite a bit accomplished, and I’m happy to announce that I have a buyer under contract on my condo and I’m under contract on house in Nashville! It was a lot of work and back and forth with various parties, and it is still not over yet, but the most stressful and time-intensive part of the whole thing (aside from moving itself) is mostly behind us.
It has me thinking about everything involved in moving, and there are so many practicalities popping into my head about the whole ordeal that I wouldn’t have thought about.
Trying To Eat Up Everything Out Of The Pantry
Now that I know that we have a month left, I’ve been trying to make use of as many pantry items as I can each meal so that we have less to move or throw out. I’m having to get super-creative, but it is pretty satisfying to see things disappear from the shelves. I’m taking a similar approach to toiletries and makeup, which is fairly comical, since I mostly work at home and barely anyone sees my face. It’s also an exercise in futility because I have too much makeup to really make a dent, but it’s still kind of fun.
Using Up Gift Cards That Are Only Applicable Here
I have about 14 more classes on my yoga class pass, and I’m going to use them all this month, damn it! I’ve been wanting to see if I could challenge myself to go to yoga every day for a period of time, and two weeks sounds like a good goal. Now I just have to make sure that someone is always around to watch baby (and also have to get my ass out of the house), and I’ll be all set. I also have some wine tasting credits that are not going to spend themselves. I think I’ll have no problem using up those bad boys.
Visiting Places That I Hadn’t Gotten Around To
I’ve lived here for 12 years, and I have never been to the observatory. I haven’t yet brought the baby to the kids museum or the botanical gardens. I haven’t been to the art museum in years, and there are numerous restaurants that I’ve been meaning to try. I suddenly feel that I have so much to see and do, and I’d like to spend my remaining free time playing tourist in this town that I’ve called home for so long. On the flipside, I’m really looking forward to doing the same in a new place and am already making lists of what to see and do there.
Hunting For Free Boxes And Newspapers
I’m finding myself hoarding boxes and newspapers, grabbing free papers and thinking about dumpster diving in the cardboard recycling bin in my neighborhood to accumulate what I’ll need for packing. I could have started this sooner, but I had no idea how quickly everything would fall into place. There are numerous other places to find free boxes, e.g., the liquor store and craigslist, and I’m just now learning all the little tricks for making moving cheaper.
Facebook Stalking Our New Hometown
I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time looking for new Facebook groups to join in Nashville. I’ve joined general groups, mom groups, restaurant and venue pages, gardening groups, library pages, you name it, and I’m really learning a lot about the town this way. I’m just really excited to go explore a new place as a local, especially a town as cool as Nashville. I’ll also have a yard for the first time in 17 years, so I’m learning about what’s good to plant and other region-specific gardening issues.
While there is a bit of nostalgia leaving a place I’ve lived for so long, I’m looking forward to having more space, exploring a new place, and creating more opportunities for us. So excited for this new adventure!
